That's A Joke, Son

That's A Joke, Son Foghorn Leghorn: "Lookit here son, I say son, did ya see that hawk after those hens? He scared 'em! That Rhode Island Red turned white. Then blue. Rhode Island. Red, white, and blue. That's a joke, son. A flag waver. You're built too low. The fast ones go over your head. Ya got a hole in your glove. I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em. Putting The Individual Customer First

Putting The Individual Customer First Something US financial institutions are spectacularly bad at... via +Ralf Haring Originally shared by Chris Jones """ When trying to figure out who’s to blame, you end up with a weirdly tangled web of misaligned incentives. Almost everyone involved—banks, credit-card companies, retailers and merchants, payment processors, terminal manufacturers—have been focused on their own bottom lines, rather than the impact their decisions will have on customers. And that’s created a maelstrom of incompetence. """ http://qz.com/717876/the-chip-card-transition-in-the-us-has-been-a-disaster/

Safe Harbor

Image
Safe Harbor Started out inauspiciously, with light and variable winds. Built up a bit, and then got pinched in between competing thunderstorms. Had changed down to the #3, and rode out the first gust front handily, although with considerable weather helm. Things eased up a bit, and flying the asym was discussed, when the second storm broke over us, and we broke a halyard and skated around a bit. Got busy fixing stuff, and later discovered a forward stanchion had punched through the deck. Took second place, and a few bumps and bruises to take home.

These locks use one of seven master keys that only the TSA can use — until 2014. In an article in The Washington Post, a reporter included a shot of all seven keys on a desk. It wasn’t long before nearly all the keys were made available for 3D printing and, last week, security researchers released the final key. Total Protonic Reversal Isn't always a bad thing. Went to see the new that "tentpole genre film starring women" Ghostbusters. It was thoroughly enjoyable. I had to laugh at myself when I noticed how flipping some of the role play seemed jarring to me. Not because it was done badly, but because it wasn't pandering to me . How dare they! Ha! I enjoyed the original Ghostbusters immensely, but I was raised on early horror schlock and National Lampoon. That movie was made for my tribe. Definitely worth seeing. "Dueling Banjos" was an instrumental composition by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. It was composed in 1955 by Smith as a banjo instrumental he called "Feudin' Banjos," which contained riffs from "Yankee Doodle." Smith recorded it playing a four-string plectrum banjo and accompanied by five-string bluegrass banjo player, Don Reno. The composition's first wide scale airing was on a 1963 television episode of The Andy Griffith Show called "Briscoe Declares for Aunt Bee," in which it is played by the visiting musical family, the Darlings, played by The Dillards, a bluegrass group. The song was made famous by the 1972 film, Deliverance, which also led to a successful lawsuit by the song's composer, as ...

Gone And Never Was

Gone And Never Was "In the end, at each address they visited, not a single home of the classmates Parks photographed was still standing, a sad testament, at least in part, to the fate of African-American neighborhoods in Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis and Columbus, Ohio, where the graduates had moved to find work and better lives." For certain values of work and better lives... Originally shared by Irina T. Gordon Parks | 1912 -2006 "BOSTON — In 1950, Gordon Parks was the only African-American photographer working for Life magazine, a rising star who was gaining the power to call his own shots, and he proposed a cover story both highly political and deeply personal: to return to Fort Scott, Kan., the prairie town where he had grown up, to find his 11 classmates in a segregated middle school. The magazine agreed, and in the spring Parks drove back into his hometown for the first time in 23 years, taking, as he wrote later, “a long hungry look” at the red brick school where h...

"Life Is Once, Forever" Originally shared by Irina T. Henri Cartier - Bresson | 1971 Interview| Part II "Poetry is the essence of everything, and it’s through deep contact with reality and living fully that you reach poetry. Very often I see photographers cultivating the strangeness or awkwardness of a scene, thinking it is poetry. No. Poetry is two elements which are suddenly conflict — a spark between two elements. But it’s given very seldom, and you can’t look for it. It’s like if you look for inspiration. No, it just comes by enriching yourself and living." http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/21/cartier-bresson-there-are-no-maybes/?smid=go-share

Impulsive

Impulsive Originally shared by Irina T. Henri Cartier-Bresson | 1971 Interview " ... It’s as if you invite someone for dinner and serve wine in a decanter instead of the bottle with the label. People should guess if it’s a good wine. But no, they want to see the label. This is awful. That’s why there shouldn’t be any captions. People should just look. We should awaken our sensitivity. But people don’t. If it’s in a decanter, they won’t dare say it’s a good wine or it’s a bad wine because they haven’t seen the year. They don’t know which chateau. That’s what I resent. I think photographs should have no caption, just location and date. Date is important because things change." Walk The Pattern

Walk The Pattern Originally shared by Assia Alexandrova Recently as a result of a happy accident, I had to take a deep dive into the Chronicles of Amber. I usually deny myself the pleasures of reading fantasy novels... but I am more than glad I did. Considering it is written 20 years before A Song of Ice and Fire, I find it to be genius and equally engaging and imaginative! Some questions highlighted in this blog: - Is design of a city better when a single mind has designed it? - Are thriving cities successful because they emotionally impact people more? - Is a dose of chaos healthy for cities? https://medium.com/@daria.rocca/zelaznys-amber-the-primeval-city-bcb67f8cfbbc#.vjotqwdkj https://medium.com/@daria.rocca/zelaznys-amber-the-primeval-city-bcb67f8cfbbc#.vjotqwdkj

Over The Top

Over The Top Nearly twenty thousand Tommies lost in a single day. Originally shared by Timothy Street "See that little stream—we could walk to it in two minutes. It took the British a month to walk to it—a whole empire walking very slowly, dying in front and pushing forward behind. And another empire walked very slowly backward a few inches a day, leaving the dead like a million bloody rugs. No Europeans will ever do that again in this generation. … This western-front business couldn’t be done again, not for a long time. The young men think they could do it but they couldn’t. They could fight the first Marne again but not this. This took religion and years of plenty and tremendous sureties and the exact relation that existed between the classes. … All my beautiful lovely safe world blew itself up here with a great gust of high explosive love."
