Excellent review from 1952 of The Old Man and the Sea. The linking of the novel with the author's short story "Big Two-Hearted River" is truly insightful. Not the overtly obvious similarity of both being tales of fishing, but that both are expositions of limitations, and the reflection of the writer in his youth imaged into maturity.

"Dr Eleanor Raffan, a veterinary surgeon and geneticist who studies how genes influence metabolism at the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge recently published a study that examines the genetics that underlie food motivation and obesity in Labrador retrievers.
