"I'll Take You There"

"I'll Take You There"

After the Staples clan went to hear Martin Luther King Jr. preach at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery Alabama, Pops said: “If he can preach it, we can sing it."

Lord, did they.

We were privileged to hear Mavis sing last night. She's getting on a bit, but she still rocked the house. We can all wish to sound and look so good when we are her age. She sang all our favorites, and a few that were new to me, like this one. It's worth the listen.

Mavis lost her sister Yvonne earlier this year: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/sc-ent-yvonne-staples-obit-0410-story.html

It's hard, watching your heroes go by the wayside. Best enjoy them and support them while you can. She's on the road. Go see her:
