By and large, the battle was fairly gentlemanly. They closed the Federal Courthouse in Wilkesboro not long ago. Wilkesboro was known as the Moonshine Capital of the World.

But as the perceived importance of Homeland Security has grown, so have the risks of over-reaction. Waco was a disaster that could have been, should have been, avoided.

  1. after it happened, the consensus in law enforcement was that people went along to get along. No one objected and no one saw that it was disastrous and that children and innocents might die.
