It's Complicated Molly Ringwald writes about re-examining her work with John Hughes in The Breakfast Club. She was apparently shocked to discover that Hughes contributed a lot of crass humor to the Lampoon. I'll have to confess that I enjoyed the crassness of National Lampoon every bit as much as I enjoyed the surrealism and hedonism of underground comix. Hughes film work was decidedly softer, but apparently not quite balanced enough for Ringwald, in hindsight. I think it is hard enough for art to capture a moment, a trend, an outlook in time, much less to represent all of them, balanced and contrapuntally.
