The Children's Crusade
Get Clean For Gene!

On March 12, 1968 Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy came within a few hundred votes of beating President Lyndon Johnson in New Hampshire's Democratic primary. McCarthy's surprisingly strong showing was powered by an anti-war message and a "children's crusade" of several thousand student volunteers who cut their hair and became clean for Gene to attract conservative voters.
I was three years too young to vote, which I suppose made me part of the Children's Crusade, and I'm proud to say I was.
