Two Speed Winch

Two Speed Winch
Well, we led the fleet across the line for all three races yesterday, and took two firsts and a second.
Only broke one thing (baby stay adjustment line), lost two things (a ball cap and a winch handle), and caught one thing on fire (an antifreeze hose).
We took a new kid along. We think he had fun. He said so, anyway.
We experienced a sudden forty degree wind shift in 15+ kts that forced an unintended tack. Lots of unexpected heeling, banging, and flailing.
When it was over, we asked him what he thought. "It was INTENSE!" he said.
We mentioned the old saw about sailing being hours of boredom, punctuated by moments of sheer terror. Or at least, lots of shouting.
ONLY THE CAPTAIN IS ALOUD TO SHOUT! (or do I mean allowed?)
ReplyDelete[crew may shout quietly]
If that were a real rule, we'd be constantly turning 720s... Heck, one of us has to stay awake hollering "Pinching!" at the skipper on all upwind legs. We don't even have to look at the sails first.
