Google Maps obviously has huge advantages in data collection and correlation over Apple Maps.
One might ought to add, at the expense of privacy.
Still, the operating premise of both systems is to Trust The Algorithm. Which works well, except when it doesn't. Labeling choices in both systems make it difficult, verging on impossible, to navigate to places the Algorithm is ignorant of.
I'm always impressed when the system accurately represents reality. However, that happens less often than you might think.

For the areas I usually travel, Google Maps has become much more accurate - and detailed - over the past few years. Add in Streetview for a quick visual check of storefronts and signage, and it almost always lets me find my way around. It's fascinating to read just what kinds of details they've added, and when.
