Fighting Over The Remote Control

Fighting Over The Remote Control

This is going to be a very tricky court case.

What happened is two nerds were fighting over a video game online. One threatened 'swatting' to the other, and the other provided a fake address. Cops show up at the address and shoot dead the first person they see, because that's what cops do.

So, the caller should be prosecuted for murder, right? But you've got to prove calling the cops usually results in a death, and cop unions are going to fight that characterization. BUT, at the same time, the cops are definitely going to want to prosecute this dude vigorously.

  1. Still doesn't make sense. Given that false reporting/"swatting" innocents has been a police problem for some time, why don't the police spend a few moments to verify the situation?

Also, there's no excuse for shooting a man who merely has his hand at his waist when the entire swat team is in full body armour and armed to the teeth...
