There is an awful lot of systemic inequality going around these days. Unfortunately, it's going to be hard for organized "labor" to fight a system that increasingly doesn't need it. Try imagining all the "gig" labor folks you know (some of which are quite highly paid) organizing themselves for political purposes. Go ahead. I'll wait.

ReplyDeleteAnd the issue of "state violence" and oppression? Those on the farthest edges of the spectrum are actually in agreement that the state is to be feared. They just differ in who they think is targeted, and what should be done about it. I find myself in the uncomfortable position of feeling that state violence is a necessity, but ought to be wielded with greater transparency and restraint, which is always a hard sell, to both sides.
