    A huge chunk of Trump's generation (including my parents) have benefited from the ridiculous way real estate out paced inflation in the last fifty years. Somehow, they think that benefit is due to hard work and savvy business acumen on their part.

    Real Estate does have a component of Deal Making (and Boondoggling), but not on a National/World Politics scale. Not much else.
