The Last Train To Hicksville

The Last Train To Hicksville

In 1970, Dennis Dias posted an ad in the Village Voice that read:
"Bass and keyboard player required, must have jazz chops. No assholes need apply."

"Although the ad had warned that no assholes need apply, just about every asshole applied. Guys would show up and play variations on Question Mark and The Mysterian's '96 Tears' for about an hour and a half."

"I remember thinking either these guys are gonna suck horribly, or they are gonna be fuckin' geniuses. They proceeded to play 20 of the most original songs I'd ever heard in my life."

Becker and Fagan didn't like flashy drummers. They wanted someone neat, heavy with his left hand and right foot. For a couple of gigs, they settled for guy named Chevy Chase.

  1. The Mysterians is probably the name of my next standalone book. Although I took it from the Toho movie.
