Part of this, of course, is about the conformance requirements of UX design, where you, the user, would imagine that you can Have It Your Way, but you'd be wrong, because Programmatic Reasons.

Also, having machines and OS's that can do Everything All At Once, inevitably leads to latency problems. If you don't believe me, just go look and listen to a wall of digital TVs at your local Big Box store.

I'm still sad that I can't have a vertical portrait monitor for print (like the Radius Pivot) because of the ubiquity of widescreen movies.

  1. I know a dude still using a Mac G4 (the weird lamp-like one) with Photoshop. I can't believe it still runs. I gather it doesn't do much, but it technically runs.

  2. There were some applications that ran on the old hardware that were even better than what's available today. It's interesting that virtualization hasn't progressed far enough to allow us to use those applications today.
