"For Tis The Sport To Have The Enginer Hoist With His Owne Petar..."

I confess to schadenfreude... the self-indulgent sin of taking pleasure from another person's pain. George F. Will has expressed agony over Donald's Trump's takeover of the Republican Party. And today Will announced that he has left the GOP... which he helped to destroy by providing decades of rationalization incantations, helping Rupert Murdoch and other oligarchs to drive the Party of Lincoln insane.

Murdoch and his fellow would-be feudal lords (the great enemies of AdamSmithian competitive market freedom) were only doing a very human thing, reflexively and by uncognizant instinct conspiring to hammer society back into the pyramid of privilege typical across 6000 years. Their betrayal of our Great Experiment has been dullard-myopic and thus at least understandable.

In contrast, Will made this choice with cool, sapient intelligence, deliberately participating in the cabal's central treason - the systematic destruction of politics as a means by which adults may negotiate pragmatic solutions to modern problems. He stood with arms crossed, occasionally "tsk-ing" as Fox & Clear Channel svengalis re-ignited confederate passion and brown-shirted, hydrophobic populist frenzy. Now... he acts all shocked when a Benito-Rasputin leaps aboard that frothing beast, snatching the reins?

There are no American traitors quite like this one, who made these choices with clear, calm appraisal. His pain is consolation as we rouse a proper answer to frothing confederatism. Singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
