New rules basically kills fan films as they are made today
no actors from other trek productions (like Koenig, Russ etc) no more than 30 minutes, can't raise more than $50K, seems like even the perk/rewards are constrained.

The 15 minute time restriction would kill the whole venture for a lot of people...which for CBS and Paramount is presumably a feature rather than a bug. The clause about "creators, actors and all other participants must be amateurs" is the harshest, though, since the boundary usually isn't so clear -- especially with actors. Basically, this all seems like a way for them to kill fan films while saying "What? We said you could make them, just so long as you followed these simple little rules..."
ReplyDeleteWell, anybody is free to go and try to work a development deal for whatever they want, with whoever they want... But I'll agree that they've made it pretty clear with this that anything above home movie status isn't going to be allowed, and thus the chances for indie level development are non-existent. Not so surprising, considering that they are currently rolling out new major projects.
