Travelling Man
Born in Broomhill, Sheffield, Yorkshire on this date in 1943, actor, author, and comedian Michael Palin.
Palin has gained lasting fame as one of the founders of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Apart from the Python films, he performed in the comedies Time Bandits, The Missionary (opposite Maggie Smith), Brazil, A Fish Called Wanda, and Fierce Creatures.
Starting in 1980, Palin found his true post-Python niche as presenter of several travel documentaries, including "Around the World in Eighty Days", "Sahara", and "New Europe", and most recently, “Brazil with Michael Palin”.
He is a former president of the Royal Geographical Society.
Among other awards, he received the Saturn for Best Writing for Time Bandits, and the BAFTA for his Supporting Role in a A Fish Called Wanda.
He has been recognized for Lifetime Achievement with the British Comedy Award in 2002 as well as a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award in 2013, and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts at University College Dublin in April 2016.
Palin is a graduate of Oxford University - 1965.
