Dylan, or Clapton?

One Rung at a Time
On the calendar of saints, 30 March is the feast day of Saint John Climacus.
What little is known, or, rather, speculated about the birth of the Syrian monk John Climacus, thought to be in the late sixth century, comes solely from the Menologium, a service-book of the Eastern Catholic and Orthodox traditions. The Vita of Daniel of Raithu, a questionable source, indicates that John came to the Vatos monastery at Mount Sinai when he was sixteen years of age. He eventually withdrew to the nearby hermitage, living in isolation for two decades. At the request of the monks of Sinai, he became their leader for the remainder of his life.
Considered one of the learned Church fathers, John Climacus’ only surviving work the Ladder of Divine Ascent, is a system of thirty steps based upon the life of Jesus, each step leading sequentially to the pinnacle of spiritual enlightenment and attainment of Heaven.
Climacus comes from the Greek “klimax”, meaning “ladder.”
