Whither Populism?
Whither Populism?
"If Mr. Trump heads the Republican Party, it will no longer be a conservative party; it will be an angry, bigoted, populist one. Mr. Trump would represent a dramatic break with and a fundamental assault on the party’s best traditions."

"Similarly, the coalition of free-thinking men and women that formed the conservative movement in the mid 1950s, that made possible a President Reagan, and that continues to constitute a political movement more staunch in its support for free markets, a limited government, and the sanctity of human life than any other in American history could hardly include Donald Trump in its litany of heroes. What definition of 'conservative' could encompass Bill Buckley and Donald Trump?"

And here I was, thinking that Bernie Sanders was leading the populist ground swell. That's the problem with labels, isn't it?
I feel the legitimate anger of the many Trump supporters I know.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Bernie has the rhetorical chops to explain why he's more likely to get them what they want and need, at least economically.

ReplyDeleteTrump 2016
ReplyDeleteTrump!
ReplyDeleteThey is discontent in the land, I don't know why but it's there that is why Trump and Sanders are making a mark.
ReplyDeletethere's nothing wrong with populism in and of itself but can we please get a better guy than trump for fucks sake?
ReplyDeletebasically the GOP establishment and to a lesser extent the DNC have no one but themselves to blame for Trump and his ilk.
ReplyDeletethis is what happens when you abandon the center.
Elizabeth Halloway you're definitely not the sharpest pencil in the drawer are you... that's okay it's obviously that time of the month you get a pass
ReplyDeletelola butt Trump is the best candidate we've had in years
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Halloway Hey look the troll is trying to claim someone else is the actual troll... get your ass back in the kitchen and do the dishes
ReplyDeleteModern gun guy naw. i don't really feel like "President of the United States" should be an entry-level position.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Halloway didn't I tell you to get your ass in the kitchen and finish the dishes you may want to change your tampon first
ReplyDeletelola butt yeah I know we already tried that with Obama and it didn't work that's why we're voting for Trump
ReplyDeleteI'll credit Trump with bringing illegal immigration to front and center of the debate. Both parties have been deliberately ignoring it for decades for their own reasons. But he shouldn't be President.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Halloway yeah I will eat that tampon up
ReplyDeleteModern gun guy Obama was not our most experienced president but he still had way more experience and, more importantly, more of a public policy record than Trump does.
ReplyDeletelola butt he definitely should be president he's the only one with good policies why don't you go check out his website
ReplyDeleteLike he does his level best to avoid service to his country his entire life and now, only when he's almost 70 years old and his children are looking at losing billions to estate taxes, he's suddenly super civic-minded and wants to serve? Just how fucking gullible does this clown think I am?
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. If y'all can't play nice, I'm going to get out the banhammer.
ReplyDeleteIt's just politics, folks. Hollering and calling names isn't to going to make anything better.
lola butt he has done more service to this country than any other candidate he brings thousands of jobs to people.. you're obviously super gullible because you are regurgitating crap that you have heard from the media...
ReplyDeleteApparently so.
ReplyDeletelola butt that chick is just practicing at being a troll
