The Struggle Is Real

The Struggle Is Real

But if it takes too long, then maybe it isn't worth it...

I'm sympathetic to the writer, and to the issues involved, but...

This stuff is hard, and academic administration is full of fear these days.  Fear of change, and fear of running out of money.  It is not always easy to sell discomfort to prospective students and their parents, even if you believe it builds character.

It's probably worth noting that Brandeis' previous president, Jehuda Reinharz, had explored closing the Rose Museum and selling its collections, because of dire economic circumstances, and that his successor, Frederick Lawrence, recently resigned in the wake of a number of free speech controversies.

Just because you're doing it right, for the right reasons, doesn't make it easy, or even possible.  That takes perseverance, among other things.
