I remember when only record store chains (The Wherehouse, Licorice Pizza, Sam Goody, etc.) rented video tapes in Southern California. It wasn't until they refused to carry X-rated stuff that the tiny (usually Asian) mom and pop places came along to fill the niche (with their curtained back room). It seems like it took forever for big places like Blockbuster to come along.
