We had large and unexpected emissions of Magic Smoke yesterday, as we left the dock.

Ye Olde Volvo Penta has a combined starter/generator, originally controlled by a Dynastarter gizmo, long since dead and replaced by a starter solenoid and voltage regulator from a '57 Ford.

Some part of all that failed spectacularly, AKA Caught Fire.
Hilarity AKA Damage Control ensued.

Reenacting dialog from Danger UXB about the merits of cutting the Blue or Red wire first, we eventually effected a repair.

In the meantime, we had a small but active infestation of Fire Ants. A small advantage of comfort was imparted to the cockpit crew with neuropathy.

The racing was almost anti-climatic, especially considering we had no competition.

Managed to get back to dock with all sails stowed, just before the afternoon T-storms.

Out to do it again, this time with more wind.
